Izuku Midoriya was born in a small town in Japan, called Kamakura. His childhood was relatively simple. His father had taken a job overseas to earn money, which he sent back periodically. Izuku grew up alone with his mother and while it was a very happy childhood, it was also quite lonely.
He learned early on that he had a knack for books and education. Izuku could grasp information quickly. He could read a book and instantly memorize the words that were written on the page in front of him. Not only that, but he could also analyze everything around him in the drop of a hat. He could take one look at a situation and figure out the best way to resolve something or the best solution for what was happening. His mind was incredibly sharp and his mother started him on the track for college at an early age.
However, this led to a lonely childhood. Izuku didn't really make friends easily and was often a bit socially awkward. When he was trying to figure things out, he often mumbled aloud, rambling when he didn't really know what else to say. He also cried easily, too; Midoriya was a ball of emotion, wearing his emotions on his sleeve.
So, when in middle school, the option came for him to study abroad, well, his mother forced him to consider the choice. Force is really a strong word, because she is a sweetheart and didn't really push him to do much he didn't want to do. Izuku took the chance, applying for high school in America. His childhood hero had been there for a time, after all, so why couldn't he at least try for it? Imagine his surprise when he got accepted into one of the most prestigious high schools in California: American University Prep.
It was insane. A full on boarding school, something he'd never really experienced before, and the curriculum was difficult. But, it was a good way to go to school in the States and to really immerse himself in what he was doing. Because Izuku had a point: he really wanted to become either a lawyer or a detective of some kind, maybe even work for the FBI if he could, because he just wanted to help people and protect them as much as he possibly could. Being a Japanese citizen was a difficult thing for a job like that, but nothing was going to stop him from meeting his goals.
To no one's surprise, he graduated at the top of his class and with a full scholarship to study law at USC. If he could make a difference somewhere, well, he could do it here.
